Pastor Earl Griffin's Biography

Reverend Dr. Earl J. Griffin, Sr. was born September 24, 1955, in Greenville, North Carolina. He is the eighth child of thirteen born to William Earl and Nettie Mae Griffin of Grifton, North Carolina. Upon graduation from Ayden-Grifton High School, June 7, 1973, Reverend Griffin began a twenty-year military career with the United States Army. He has served in Europe, South America, Asia, and in several states throughout the country. He retired on October 1, 1993 to pursue ministerial vocation. Reverend Griffin began preaching in 1979, in a small European town called Mons, Belgium. He has served as a pastor in the Christian Methodist Episcopal since 1992.

    Rev. Griffin's community activities are numerous:
  • Active participant in struggle to ensure continuation of J. L. Jones Elementary School during the WPSB consolidation and budget reduction process.
  • Wrote a position paper outlining the value of community based education in the Black community to its children and residents. Attended sessions held in Minden and spoke on behalf of the residents of the community before the WPSB.
  • Served as Member, Webster Parrish School Board Improvement Team 2010-2012.
  • Traveled to LA State House and opened the 2011 session of the State Senate in prayer as a guest of Senator Adley 2011.
  • Led Mt. Zion to participate in the 2011 Back to School Bash held at Minden Civic Center.
  • Served on Collaborative Team for the 2011 Fuller Legacy Build (eight (8) new homes) Minden, LA.
  • Guest speaker for the Minden Branch of the Social Security Office 2011 Black History Month Celebration.
  • Advocated for NAACP Membership and helped obtain necessary members to regain Charter Status.

Rev. Griffin's credentials include Associates and Bachelor's Degrees from the University of Maryland, a Master's in Divinity Degree from Erskine Theological Seminary, a Doctorate in Religious Studies from Ashwood University, and a Master's of Science Degree in Leadership Studies. Rev. Dr. Griffin is also a Certified Speaker, Coach and Trainer.

Reverend Griffin is married to Marilyn McDowell Griffin, a retired educator of 31 years. Together they enjoy seven children and seven grandchildren.
